Driving Standards Agency (DSA) agreed in 2007 that Continuous Professional Development (CPD) will be introduced to the driver training industry gradually over the next few years.
DSA has increased awareness of the value of CPD and are encouraging more ADIs to consider the benefits of CPD participation. They are already issuing CPD attendance certificates to ADIs who attend their conferences. The next stages will be a voluntary scheme followed by the introduction of a mandatory CPD scheme.

Whether working independently or for a driving school the job of an instructor is lonely and insular. Your pupils won’t give you feedback on your teaching skills. In a fast-changing industry all instructors need outside influences to help them keep up-to-date, motivated and professional.
As a leading and well – established ORDIT training company, we have strong interest in your professional growth. We are keen to provide the knowledge and skills that help build purposeful learning into your professional life.
What is AIM’s approach to CPD?
From January 2010, AIM Instructor Training is once again running a series of one-day training seminars and in-car coaching to help qualified instructors develop their instructional techniques. ADIs who attend these CPD events can expect to:
- Spend the morning in a seminar/workshop environment, with up to 11 other course delegates, discussing and examining key learning and teaching processes integral to good driving instruction and business practice.
- Spend the afternoon in-car with an AIM ORDIT Trainer and with either one or two course delegates, and apply the principles reviewed during the seminar/workshop. Working in small groups generates more discussion and develops topics in more depth.
- At home, reflect upon the lessons they have learned during the events, record their achievements, assess over time the practical benefits of the training and plan their next course of action.
A certificate of achievement/completion is issued to ADIs at the end of each CPD event.
